Akita

The dog breed Akita is indigenous to Japan, and is highly revered in that country. The best thing about this breed of dog is that its features have remained unchanged throughout the centuries and it is regarded as the national dog of Japan and also a natural monument. The mention of the dog is found in the both written and verbal history of Japan. The dogs from this breed which is the largest among the Spitz type breeds are highly expensive and at one time they were only possessed by the aristocrats and the nobles. At that time they were used for hunting boars and bear, act as an imperial protector and for retrieving waterfowls after they are hunted. Currently they are known as excellent companion, guard and therapy dog. Helen Keller is credited for introducing this dog breed to USA.

American Bulldog

The original bulldog came to America with the settlers in the southern part of America, who came from the West Midlands of England. This breed of dog was used by the small farmers and the ranchers so that they can act as guardians, catch dog and stock dog. This is a generic breed of bulldog and it has no pedigree.

American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffofshire terrier breed has its origin in England. The ancestors of this dog were used for guarding farmhouses, dog fighting and as companion. It is often said that the Fox Terrier, Black and Tan Terrier and White English Terrier were crossed with the bulldogs to develop this breed. This is because in this breed you would find various traits of these dogs but there are some differences also such as in spirit, color and aggressiveness. In the beginning, it had various names such as Half and Half, Pit Bull terrier, Pit Dog and Bull-and-Terrier Dog. Later on it got the name Staffordshire Bull Terrier in England.

Australian Shepherd

The history of Australian shepherd breed of dog is not very definite. Some believe that this breed originated in Spain and it was mostly regarded as sheepdog. This breed developed in western North America during the 19th and the early 20th centuries. The breed that we know today however, did not exist before the Victorian era. The local varieties of the ancestors of the present breed came to USA with their owners. This breed is a interbred of dogs which are known for their working abilities.
